Photos today, become memories tomorrow, and legends forever in days of yore.
When I was in high school, I won’t mention what years I was enrolled, my dad came home one day with a really nice camera. It was a Nikon FE with a 50 mm prime lens and a 70-210 telephoto lens. I fell in love! How I talked my dad into letting me take it to school to take pictures for our yearbook, I don’t know. I wouldn’t have let me take it... He did, however, and I have been taking photos ever since.
I started taking photos that year at high school sporting events. I was never an athlete, but I liked the excitement that came with making a great play and scoring points. On the sidelines, I was part of the game and I was following the action!
While in college, I concentrated my photography on a single athletic team at a time, with a few added events here and there. The first team I chose to follow was the men’s lacrosse team. It was a smart move, because the coach took me under his wing and allowed me to travel with the team as one of their managers. Occasionally I would keep score, haul equipment, and call media contacts with scores and stats after games. Luckily, we had two other score keeper/managers, so I was able to take photos most of the time. I became the team promoter and photographer. After each game, I would post my pictures in the field house display case for everyone to see. I enjoyed the positive reactions to the photos and I enjoyed capturing memories for the players and fans.
I spent many summers shooting portraits, family events, and portfolios. My true love, however, will always be sports photography. I had such wonderful experiences and incredible support from everyone I worked with. There is always something happening and it is so gratifying when you get that one exceptional shot!
I am still taking photographs today. Come back to my website often and check out my pictures. If you see an image you like, you are welcome to purchase a copy. I hope you find something special in the photos I produce, whether it is a record of a memory or something you just like to look at. Enjoy!
PS: I want to thank the people and teams I am photographing. You’re all amazing! And, of course, thanks to my dad who saw my potential as a photographer and has continued to gift me with means to shoot quality photographs. He likes to shop for the good stuff! ;-) I like to use the good stuff! Dad, Nikon, and I are all very happy. :-D
